Rosa Constance Spry® 'Ausfirst'
Rose
Thanks to the individuals (Shauna order preparation & Laéticia from the shipping department), the rose bush I received appears to be healthy. Planted near the 'Kaffe Fassett' variety, I am now eagerly awaiting its progress... Note: it was received without the original AUSTIN variety label, which is essential for identifying the rose bush in all seasons.

Description
The English rose 'Constance Spry' is a rose with large and beautiful flowers, its flexible branches can be trained as both a bush and a climber. Trained on a support, it can easily reach a height of 3m (10ft) or more. The rose has a deep and full cup shape with a generous fragrance. The pink coloured petals give a lovely impression of delicacy.
This rose is the first one obtained by the famous David Austin house, its decorative qualities already promised a bright future to this talented breeder. However, 'Constance Spry' is not perpetual-flowering and is quite susceptible to diseases. It therefore requires some care.
'Constance Spry' was a British woman who dedicated years to the study and cultivation of old roses, who deserved the honour of having her name given to the very first famous English rose.
Obtained by David Austin in 1961.

Planting and care
Plant your English Rose 'Constance Spry' in a sunny location. English roses are tolerant but will not appreciate excessive limestone. They will adapt to any garden as long as the soil is well worked and rich enough. To plant your rose, prepare the soil by crumbling it well and adding an amendment, such as dried blood or dehydrated horn, at the bottom of the planting hole. Water generously after planting to remove any air pockets. Water regularly for a few weeks to facilitate rooting. As a non-perpetual rose, 'Constance Spry' should be pruned at the end of the single flowering period. Prune lightly to aerate the centre of the bush, and rejuvenate your rose every 2 or 3 years by cutting back the oldest branches at the base. At the end of winter, you can remove dead wood when pruning your perpetual roses. For varieties sensitive to diseases, there are preventive and curative treatments, but the most important thing is vigilance and systematic cleaning of cutting tools.

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
