Description

Chaenomeles x speciosa 'Fire Dance' is a compact bush with a spreading habit, remarkable for its early spring flowering on bare branches. It bears stunning cup-shaped red flowers, grouped in clusters.

This hardy variety will reach a height of 1m (3ft) and a spread of about 2m (7ft). Its shiny green leaves are narrow and 5cm (2in) long. In autumn, it produces yellow fruits, 5 to 7cm (2 to 3in) in size. The fruits are delicious in jams.

This thorny bush can be planted in a container as well as in the garden, as a standalone subject, in a bed or as an informal hedge. Its thorns are also useful for defensive hedges.

In our opinion, one of the most beautiful spring flowerings.

Planting and care

Easy to grow, it requires little maintenance. It is very hardy. It dreads an excess of limestone in the soil and prefers neutral or slightly acidic soil. Plant it in a sunny or semi-shaded position.
