Description

We offer you a collection of 3 bushy potentillas from the Double Punch series. These Potentilla fruticosa are characterised by a low and wide habit (50 cm (20in) in height and 90 cm (35in) in width), well-branched, double flowers measuring 3 cm (1in) in diameter, and a long flowering period from June to September. They are deciduous shrubs that have a great impact in sunny borders, as low hedges, but also in pots on a patio or balcony. Like all bushy potentillas, these varieties are hardy, water-efficient, and almost fail-proof in well-drained soil.

It consists of:

1 Double Punch Gold Potentilla: flowering in a very bright yellow

1 Double Punch Cream Potentilla: its flowers quickly change from pink to cream white

1 Double Punch Peach Potentilla: flowers in shades of pink, salmon, and soft yellow

In full sun, Double Punch potentillas will produce more vibrant-coloured flowers, in partial shade, the colour will be slightly less intense. Hassle-free, generous, and beautifully coloured, potentillas are ideal for brightening up the garden or balcony, effortlessly and enduringly. With their Scottish rose-like appearance and their very modest requirements, they can be used in multiple ways and planted anywhere: in flower beds, on slopes, in borders, low hedges, pots... Under most of our climates and in any well-drained soil. To complement their warm colours, consider, for example, red , orange, yellow, white, blue bushy salvias, or white Gauras, tall Euphorbias, and blue Caryopteris. Double Punch potentillas make absolutely stunning large borders in front of a backdrop of evergreen shrubs.

Planting and care

Very easy to grow, Potentilla fruticosa Double Punch is a hardy plant and can withstand low temperatures,-15°C (5°F). It prefers a sunny or partially shaded exposure. Its only real requirement concerns the nature of the soil in which it is planted. Indeed, it requires ordinary, rather poor soil, and very well-drained. In the case of heavy or clayey soils that are not suitable, it will be necessary to place it on a slope or a rockery to promote water flow. It is also possible to lighten the soil at the time of planting by adding coarse sand and gravel to improve drainage. An additional quality to add to its list of attributes is good drought tolerance once established. However, it does not equal that of a plant from the scrubland.

The shrubby potentilla does not require much maintenance. Blooming on the current year's shoots, a simple annual pruning is sometimes necessary, depending on the varieties. It is recommended to cut back by half the stems that have carried the flowers of the previous year, just above a bud, in early spring, to stimulate regrowth and maintain the beautifully bushy shape of your potentilla. It is also desirable to remove faded flowers as they appear during the flowering period to prolong it for a long time.
