Description

We are offering you a Duo of dwarf lilacs, two varieties selected for their small size and abundant, fragrant flowering. Their beautiful clusters of white and pink flowers appear abundantly in spring, sometimes sporadically during summer, and again in September-October. These 'Flowerfesta' Korean Lilacs are perfect for small gardens or on a terrace, wherever space is limited. They are undemanding and adapt to all styles of gardens and all climates.

The collection consists of:

- 1 x Syringa meyeri Flowerfesta® White (Anny200810): pure white flowering

- 1 x Syringa meyeri Flowerfesta® Pink (‘Anny200817’PBR): pink flowering, buds of a darker pink

The Flowerfesta® lilacs naturally form a rounded, compact and branched bush, which will not exceed 1.25 m (4ft) in all directions. They flower from a young age, abundantly in April-May, in clusters of 10 to 14 cm (4 to 6in), made of small single flowers that appear at the end of the previous year's shoots, and again in late summer or early autumn, at the end of the year's branches. This nectariferous flowering attracts many butterflies and pollinating insects.

Plant them in a small flowering hedge, in a shrub bed, or in a large pot with drainage holes (30 to 50 cm (12 to 20in) in diameter). Leave a spacing of 60 cm (24in) between each plant. The most favourable planting periods are February-March and September-October. They will thrive in well-prepared garden soil mixed with compost. It is best to plant them in full sun. Pruning the faded inflorescences will encourage a second flowering in late summer and a more abundant flowering the following year.

Some ideas for companions: with pink shrub roses ('Astronomia', 'Annelies', 'Rush'...), pink or white Deutzias, a 'Camaïeu d'été' Indian Lilac for example. Complete the ensemble with our duo of long-flowering perennial geraniums, to be planted in front of the shrubs along with 5 or 6 white foxgloves for example.

Planting and care

The Syringa Flowerfesta ® is ideally planted from October to November or from February to May. It can tolerate ordinary garden soil, but it should be well-drained, deep, loose, not too dry in summer, even if it's limestone. It is recommended to apply a complete fertiliser every year at the beginning of the growth season. It is best to plant it in full sun (or in light shade in hot climates), as its flowering is better when it receives maximum light and when winters are well-contrasted. It is useful to remove faded inflorescences after flowering to avoid fruiting, which is not of interest and exhausts the plant. This will promote a late summer regrowth and a more abundant flowering the following year. This variety flowers on the previous year's shoots, as well as on the current year's branches. Pruning is not obligatory for this naturally compact variety. Avoid severe pruning in all cases, as it limits the spring flowering.
