Iris reticulata are small hardy bulbs, early flowering with delicate and fragrant flowers from the end of winter. They have elongated leaves shaped like a gutter and flowers with 3 petals and 3 large coloured sepals. Solitary on a tall stem, the corollas only reach a height of 15cm (6in). In February, the blue and orange-yellow Iris reticulata 'Harmony' or the light blue and white Iris 'Natasha' are the first to bloom in gardens. Iris reticulata grow in any good, well-drained garden soil, even in sunny or semi-shaded situations. Plant the bulbs in September or October, 5 to 8cm (2 to 3in) deep. They can also be grown in pots. Apply a bulb fertilizer after flowering. Be careful in heavy soil, dig up the bulbs to rest in summer.  Iris reticulata are perfect in rockeries, borders, and pots.
