Description

The 'Apricot Impression' Darwin Hybrid Tulip®, with its magnificent elongated flowers in a beautiful apricot pink, creates a sensational effect in borders and bouquets. This recent creation with multiple qualities offers beautifully curved flowers, with thick substance and great durability, whose colour is enchanting. They bloom in the heart of spring, carried by strong stems that withstand the weather.

The 'Apricot Impression' Darwin Hybrid Tulip belongs to the Liliaceae family. Originally from horticulture, introduced in the Netherlands in 1996, it is currently classified in Division 4, characterized by large single flowers with an oval shape, appearing mid-season, carried by long weather-resistant stems. Tulips in this group are the most cultivated for the cut flower trade. Originally derived from cross-breeding with botanical species such as the robust Tulipa fosteriana, they show no signs of their wild ancestry. 'Apricot Impression' will reach a height of approximately 50-55cm (20-22in) when in bloom. Perched on strong stems, well above the broadly lanceolate leaves, the flowers can measure up to 10cm (4in) in height. The soft and rich colour of this tulip is enhanced by the slightly waxy and translucent texture of the petals. The brushed orange corolla opens to reveal an apricot-mango interior. This unique combination of colours gives the impression that the flowers are glowing from within. Flowering usually starts in late April, with each flower lasting several days before fading.

The 'Apricot Impression' Tulip finds its place in large borders, and of course in bouquets. Its fantastic colour allows for combinations with tulips in white, red, blue, or even purple tones with a touch of audacity. Pair it with grape hyacinths, lady's mantle, spurge, forget-me-nots, and chamomiles to create surprising scenes. It can also be planted with primroses, Iberis, and pansies in sky blue in borders, rockeries, and flower beds, as well as in pots and containers. It pairs perfectly with tall perennials and is ideal for creating beautifully coloured bouquets. When using it in a vase, use very little water, just a small amount is enough! Additionally, if your tulips open too quickly, you can add two to three ice cubes to the vase each day.

Planting and care

Plant the bulbs in autumn, from September to December, at a depth of 15cm (6in), spacing them 10cm (4in) apart. The planting should be done in ordinary soil, slightly acidic, neutral, or slightly alkaline, loose, well-worked, and well-drained. It is never necessary to add manure or poorly decomposed compost to the planting soil, as this could cause the bulbs to rot. The tulip will thrive in moist to dry soil in summer. Plant it in a sunny or partially shaded location. Once flowering is complete, it is preferable to remove the fruits to avoid depleting the plant.
