Tulipa 'Pink Sound'

The 'Pink Sound' Darwin Hybrid Tulip, large, very beautiful and reliable, has been rewarded for its numerous qualities. This already ancient variety bears very large flowers of a unique pink, a peachy pink bordered by a deeper pink that emphasizes each petal. Sculptural and very long-lasting both in a vase and in a bed, they appear as early as April, carried by long sturdy stems that withstand bad weather. Magnificent with forget-me-nots!

The 'Pink Sound' Darwin Hybrid Tulip belongs to the Lily family. Of horticultural origin, introduced in 1979 in the Netherlands, it is currently classified in Division 4, whose main characteristics are large single flowers of ovoid shape, appearing in mid-season, carried by long weather-resistant stems. Tulips in this group are the most cultivated for the cut flower trade. Originally derived from cross-breeding with botanical species such as the robust Tulipa fosteriana, they show no signs of their wild ancestry. 'Pink Sound' will reach a height of approximately 50-55cm (20-22in) when in bloom. Perched on rigid stems, well above the broadly lanceolate leaves, the flowers can measure up to 15cm (6in) in height. The beautiful pink colour of this tulip is enhanced by the slightly waxy, iridescent and translucent texture of the petals. The flowering takes place in April, each flower lasts several days before wilting. The foliage turns yellow and then dries out some time after flowering.

The 'Pink Sound' Tulip finds its place in large beds, and of course in bouquets. Its fantastic colour allows for combinations with tulips in white, pink, purple or mauve tones. Pair it with snapdragons, lady's mantle, Euphorbias, forget-me-nots and chamomiles, and you will create surprising scenes. It can also be planted with primroses, Iberis and pansies in sky blue in borders, rockeries, flower beds as well as in pots and containers. It pairs perfectly with tall perennials and is ideal for creating very colourful bouquets. When in a vase, use very little water, just a bottom is enough! Furthermore, if your tulips open too quickly, you can add two to three ice cubes to the vase every day.
