Description

The 'Neglige' Dentate Tulip is a beautiful novelty, still unavailable in the horticultural trade, offering a very seductive late flowering. In April-May, it reveals its flowers formed of fresh pink petals, with delicately fringed edges of intense pink-red. They are carried by sturdy stems that withstand the wind. The charming contrast of its shades and its hairy bud work wonders in romantic borders and create irresistibly tender bouquets!

The 'Neglige' Dentate Tulip belongs to the lily family. Of horticultural origin, it is currently classified in the 'Crispa' group, whose main characteristic is the finely dentate tips of the petals. This tulip will reach a height of 40 to 45cm (16 to 18in) when in bloom. Flowering takes place in April-May, slightly towards the end of the tulip season. The flowers are single, a tender pink with fringed edges of bright pink-red, shaped like small crystals. The flowers last a long time in the garden and in a vase, allowing you to extend the tulip season until May. The foliage is broad, with a soft green colour that is slightly greyish.

In the world of flowers, there is truly nothing comparable to dentate tulips to spice up your garden in spring with something unique. Ideal for borders, the 'Neglige' Tulip will also create beautiful patches in perennial beds, alongside biennial or annual plants that will fill the space after flowering. You can choose forget-me-nots, sweet williams, or annual poppies for this purpose. By choosing dentate tulips, you will bring an original and refined touch to your bouquets. You can also combine them with Darwin tulips, parrot tulips, late double tulips, and even lily-flowered varieties.

About botanical species: Wild tulip species are native from Western Europe to China and Japan, passing through Eastern Europe, Asia Minor, and Central Asia. They are also found in North Africa and the Indian subcontinent. The centre of diversity for the genus is located in the Pamir and Hindu Kush mountains and the steppes of Kazakhstan.

Planting and care

Plant your 'Neglige' Dentate Tulips as soon as possible in a well-drained soil. Loosen the soil deeply. Plant at a depth of 15cm (6in) (Bulbs should be covered with twice their height of soil). Space the bulbs a few cm apart, making sure they do not touch each other. Choose a sunny exposure for better flowering. After flowering, cut the flower stalks and let the leaves dry completely before cutting them. After flowering, their foliage becomes unsightly, so we recommend planting Heucheras, Foamflowers, Brunneras, Bleeding Hearts, Cypress Spurge, in the foreground of your flower beds, as their foliage will enhance the colours of your tulips and elegantly conceal their yellowed leaves during the season.
