Description

The 'Royal Centennial' Double fringed Tulip is a variety full of multiple silky and fringed petals, with a beautiful intense colour. The incredible double ruffled flowers offer a random mix of orange and bright yellow. On the outermost petals, a green flame adds a beautiful accent. This tulip stands on sturdy stems above compact and neat clumps of large tender green leaves. Whether in a flower bed, border, or bouquet, it enhances the beauty of spring.

The 'Royal Centennial' Double fringed Tulip belongs to the lily family. Of horticultural origin, it is classified in the 'Crispa' group, whose main characteristic is to have petals with finely toothed edges. This tulip will reach a height of 40 cm when in bloom. Flowering takes place in April-May, a little later than other tulips. The flowers are double, with a wide open cup shape. The fringed edges of this magnificent tulip are slightly lighter. The flowers last a long time and allow the tulip season to be extended until May.

In the world of flowers, there is truly nothing comparable to fringed tulips to spice up your spring garden. Perfect for borders, the 'Royal Centennial' Double Tulip will also create beautiful spots in perennial flower beds, alongside biennial plants that will fill the space after flowering. You can choose wallflowers for this purpose or forget-me-nots with their blue colour and modest flowers that enhance the opulent flower of 'Royal Centennial'. By choosing fringed tulips, you will add a unique touch to your bouquets.

Planting and care

Plant the Royal Centennial Tulip bulbs in the autumn, from September to December, at a depth of 15 cm, spacing them 10 cm apart in ordinary, slightly acidic, neutral, or slightly alkaline, loose, well-worked, and well-draining soil. Never add poorly decomposed manure or compost to the planting soil, as this could cause the bulbs to rot. Tulips will thrive in moist to dry soil. Place them in a sunny or partially shaded location. After flowering, remove the seed heads to avoid exhausting the bulb. Allow the leaves to completely dry before cutting them. We recommend planting Heucheras, Tiarelles, Brunneras, Bleeding Hearts or Spurge, in the foreground of your flower beds, as their foliage will enhance the colours of your tulips and elegantly conceal their yellowed leaves.
