I am writing this review after having had numerous occasions to contact Promise of Flowers. I bought a lot of bulbs in the autumn when they were on sale at a 50% discount. I didn't know they were ALL bad. All the bulbs! It's clear that I wouldn't have bought them if I had known they were bad. Who sells bad bulbs, even at a reduced price?! The packages arrived wet and the paper bags they were placed in were opening up with powder, mold, and insects. The bulbs were not cleaned of their dirt and dried before being sent to me. I contacted them multiple times, having spent around 1000 euros on all these bulbs. Their first response was "well, it's because the soil is wet," and then when I explained that I hadn't even planted all of them yet, the second response was "you're supposed to plant them as soon as they arrive." So what's the solution? That you swindle me? There were no apologies, no offer to replace what went wrong, no offer of a refund. Nothing.

Description

Lily-flowered Tulip 'Lasting Love' is a recent French hybrid, distinguished by its powerfully fragrant flowers, lush foliage, and unique dark red colour. It blooms in April, with narrow-cupped, satiny flowers with tapering petals and wide burgundy-red edges surrounding a darker, purple-brown central zone. They open in a very dark and glossy red star shape. This variety pairs perfectly with 'Flamming purissima' or 'Merlot' tulips to create a sumptuous blend of white, pink, ruby red, and purple in borders and bouquets.

The lily-flowered tulip 'Lasting Love', bred in 2008 by INRA, belongs to the liliaceae family. It is classified in division 6 of horticultural tulips, which comprises 15 types. Their main characteristics are as follows: they bear single flowers in the second half of spring and their narrow-cupped flowers have pointed and recurved petals when they open. They were created in the early 20th century. The 'Lasting Love' variety will reach a height of 40 cm (16in) when in bloom in April. The colour of this dark flower is enhanced by its intense fragrance and very glossy texture. The inside of the corolla has a black base and a white style. The foliage is wider, more wavy, and more lush than other tulips, adding extra charm to this variety. Each solitary flower is supported by a delicate-looking, but remarkably weather-resistant stem.

This queen of elegance fits well in large borders and bouquets. Its beautiful dark shade allows for combinations with pink or white tulips, creating a lovely contrast. This also maximizes the flowering duration of borders. Pair it with grape hyacinths and euphorbias for stunning scenes. It can also be planted in borders, rockeries, flower beds, pots and containers. This tulip will be beautiful on balconies and terraces and pairs with tall perennials. In a vase, use very little water, just covering the bottom is enough! If your tulips open too quickly, you can add two to three ice cubes to the vase each day. Many varieties of lily-flowered tulips are grown for forcing to produce cut flowers for a large part of the year.

Plant as soon as possible in light, fertile, and well-drained soil that has been deeply loosened to a depth of 15 cm (6in) (bulbs should be covered with twice their height of soil). Space the bulbs 10 cm (4in) apart, making sure they do not touch each other. Cut the flower stems after flowering but let the leaves dry completely before cutting them.
