Clearer than in the picture. 2nd year: only one bulb blooms! Another one that is not perennial. Probably ideal for seasonal pots, but if you want to leave it in place in flower beds, you can forget about it...

Description

Tulipa 'Marianne' is a new variety of lily-flowered tulip. Its long and slender flowers open in the sun in the shape of stars. They bloom in April-May. The flowers are bicolour, in pink and orange shades.

The flowers are perched on sturdy stems that are resistant to bad weather. The green foliage is deciduous. This tulip represents the very elegance of beautiful gardens. It is often found in flower beds, accompanied by pansies and pink daisies. It pairs well with biennials like wallflowers.

At maturity, Tulipa 'Marianne' can reach a height of 50cm (20in).

After flowering, the foliage becomes unsightly, so we recommend planting heuchera, tiarella, brunnera, bleeding heart, or Euphorbia cyparissia at the forefront of your flower beds. Their foliage will enhance the colours of your tulips, and will elegantly conceal the tulip's yellowed leaves.

Planting and care

Plant the bulbs from October to December for a beautiful spring flowering. Choose a sunny or partially shaded area. Plant the bulbs as soon as possible in light, fertile, and well-drained soil, to a depth of 15cm (6in) (the bulbs should be covered with twice their height in soil). Space the bulbs 10cm (4in) apart (making sure they do not touch each other) to create a mass effect that will give a more decorative appearance. Cut the flower stems after flowering. Allow the leaves to dry completely before cutting them.
