A disaster for in-ground lilies, due to the heatwave following excessive spring rainfall. A delight for potted lilies.

Planting and care

Lilies are available in early October; plant them as soon as you receive them. They enjoy the winter cold, which allows them to take root. Dig deep holes and plant with a mix of garden soil and compost. They should be buried under 10cm (4in) of soil. They tolerate all exposures but are sensitive to excess moisture so give them a well-drained soil.

Our tip: Lilies are very suitable for growing in pots. Plant 1 to 5 bulbs in a deep pot. Water them a little and keep your pots in a frost-free area. Bring them out in spring and enjoy their fragrance on your terrace!
