Description

Begonia 'Super Olympia Mix' is a blend of Always-Flowering Begonia from a series known for its compact and bushy habit and vigorous, well-branched growth that resists adverse weather conditions. It forms clumps of dense, round and green foliage while the single or double flowers are white, pink, and red around a small yellow heart. This colourful display blooms continuously throughout the summer from June to September. This hybrid begonia prefers shade or partial shade, whether planted in the ground or in pots on the terrace or balcony. It is generally grown as an annual plant as it is not very hardy.

Begonia 'Super Olympia Mix' is a non-hardy herbaceous perennial plant belonging to the begonia family. It originates from Begonia semperflorens, a hybrid between two species native to Brazil: Begonia cucullata and Begonia schmidtiana. Plants from this selection are highly branched and will quickly reach 20 cm in all directions. They have a very regular habit in a compact ball shape, with stout, fleshy stems covered with leathery, rounded, shiny leaves, about 5 cm long. The leaves are a fresh green colour. Appearing from May-June on the earliest varieties, and lasting until the first frosts, the flowers are single, semi-double, or double. Their soft or bright colours range from white to pink and red. They are clustered in the axils of the leaves and at the terminal part of the stems. Begonias are monoecious, bearing both male flowers (single flowers) and female ones (double flowers).

Super Olympia Mix begonias make excellent, remarkably colourful bedding that brighten up borders in shady or partially shady areas. As they are not hardy, they are often used in troughs, planters, or large flowering pots, easy to bring indoors into heated greenhouses or conservatories at the first cold spells. They pair well with plants with light foliage and flowers, such as lobelias, annual pennisetums, bacopas, bidens, or petunias. Remove faded flowers to promote new blooms.
