Thank you for kindly sending me the seeds that I did not receive. Apart from powdery mildew on euphorbia polychroma purpurea, I am very happy with the various deliveries. Robust plants, good explanations.. To be continued..

Description

Painted daisy Sunset or Chrysanthemum carinatum Sunset  is an annual plant that is often called tricolor daisy because of the different colours that are displayed by the flower.

The flower is typically that of a daisy and are called capitula. Its centre consists of tiny, tubular flowers that appear purplish-blue when closed. These flowers will gradually open in a circular pattern, first revealing their yellow stamens before letting their red eye appear. The surrounding edges of this daisy are made up of ligulate flowers, which means that a part of these little florets has transformed into a colourful long petal. The base of this petal is yellow and the outer part takes on shades of red, orange, pink or golden yellow. These different successions of colour on each petal lends this tricoloured chrysanthemum (Chrysanthemum tricolor in latinits good reputation.

Ismelia carinata, Ismelia versicolor, Matricaria carinatum, are the typical synonyms encountered of its name, but rest assured, they all designate the same plant.

It is a bushy plant that resists the cold and therefore can be direct sown in its final position in April-May.

Measuring 60 cm in height, it fits perfectly into a bed of perennials, completing the garden's palette of colours. Sown in pots, it is a long-lasting solution for decorating the terrace and the balcony. It has an excellent vase life and can be used for the creation of magnificent wildflower bouquets from June to September.

Easy to grow, it adapts well to all soils but still prefers a very sunny position.

Eco-gesture: by sowing the painted daisy 'Sunset' in your garden, you will attract loads of pollinating insects that will feast on its nectar which will benefit the health of your garden's ecosystem all at the same time.

Planting and care

Direct sow painted daisy in March-April, in a sunny spot. Prepare the soil well beforehand and add a little compost. Broadcast sow your seeds. Cover the seeds with a fine sprinkling of soil, tamp down lightly and water generously with a fine spray nozzle.

Their growth is fast. As soon as the seedlings reach 5 cm in height, thin out between the ranks. Eventually, prick some out into pots or plant out in a bed.

Remove wilted flowers to encourage further blooming.
