Lisianthus Cessna Pure White coated seeds - Eustoma russelianu

White Lisianthus Eustoma russellianum ‘Cessna Pure White III’ offers large, very double corollas borne on long stems, ideal for cut flowers and summer plantings. This series, designed for cut flower professionals, is also suitable for home gardeners. You can enjoy its long summer flowering in the ground or in pots. 
The coated seeds are encased in a neutral coating (clay, nutrients) which makes them larger and more uniform. They allow for more precise sowing, easier handling, reduce losses, and promote more even germination.

The botanical species belongs to the Gentianaceae family. It is known as Eustoma grandiflorum and, formerly, Lisianthus (used in horticulture). The wild plant is native to the North American Great Plains (from northern Mexico to Colorado and Nebraska) and, more broadly, to the southern United States; it is found in prairies, along streams, on damp sandy soils. Although North American, Lisianthus was greatly improved in Japan from the 1930s onwards, explaining the multitude of modern series selected for cut flowers.
‘Cessna Pure White III’ belongs to the Cessna series (group III). This series shows reliable growth even in less favourable conditions, uniformity in habit and cycle, a strong root system and a short cultivation cycle; flowering begins 11 to 16 weeks after transplanting. Plantings from mid-spring to early summer allow for harvesting flowers from July to September.
Each plant has an upright habit and simple stems that branch towards the top. In the ground, the stems often reach 80cm in height; in pots, they remain shorter. The double flowers measure 7–8cm in diameter and are pure white. There are more than 5 buds per stem. In a vase, the flowers can last 2 to 3 weeks.
The foliage is thick, bluish-green and slightly chalky. The fruits, if allowed to form, are dry capsules containing very numerous fine seeds. The root system includes a taproot sensitive to excess water and late transplanting. 

Plant Lisianthus  ‘Cessna Pure White III’ in a bed near the patio or in a cut flower patch, in closely spaced rows to obtain long stems, or in a pot on a sheltered balcony. Pair its large white flowers with matte foliage and summer annuals: Pastel ball Dahlias ('Wizard of Oz', 'Marshmallow Baby'), double Zinnias in cream/apricot tones ('Cresto! Peaches and Cream'), white Cosmos or white/pink snapdragons that will flower all summer. Among the Lisianthus that pair particularly well, try Eustoma F1 ‘Voyage 3 Champagne’, F1 ‘Echo Lavender’ or F1 ‘Rosanne Green’ to play with flower volumes and stagger the flowering according to the groups. Mulch to keep the soil moist and stake your plants if the site is exposed to wind.
