Planted last year, it did not survive this year. What a shame.

Description

This Nemesia strumosa Sunsatia Plus Anona, poetically named 'mirror of the elves', is an annual plant with a habit that is both upright and trailing, ideal for pots and containers. Its early flowering covers the plant with clusters of large white flowers with a yellow heart, highly fragrant, from spring until frost. Its well-branched and compact growth shows good resistance to inclement weather. It should be placed in a gently sunny exposure, in fertile and well-drained soil.

Nemesia strumosa, also known as African Nemesia, is an annual plant from the family Scrophulariaceae, native to South Africa. Its is the source of numerous horticultural varieties, constantly improving in terms of floriferousness and durability. The Sunsatia Plus series is one of these successful creations, offering continuous flowering from May to October on highly branched plants.

The 'Anona' variety displays large white flowers with a yellow heart, fragrant, gathered at the end of sturdy stems, forming a graceful clump of 30 cm (12in) in all directions, both upright and trailing. The foliage consists of lanceolate leaves with deep serrations, medium green. This well-branched plant withstands wind and rain.

From the first days of spring, the vibrant colours of Nemesias illuminate the flowerbeds of cities and villages. And on terraces and in gardens, with their graceful habit - both bushy and trailing - these fresh plants perfectly adorn hanging baskets, balcony planters, all types of containers, and even perennial borders, preferably in full sun. They are easy to grow in the garden and produce spectacular results when planted in containers. Use them also as edging, in mixed colours or in combination with geraniums, lobelias, verbenas, petunias, etc.

Note: Please be aware that our plug plants are professional products intended for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, repot and store them under cover (veranda, greenhouse, cold frame) at a temperature above 14°C (57.2°F) for a few weeks before being installed outdoors once the risk of frost has definitively passed.

Planting and care

Plant your Sunsatia Nemesias in a sunny location or possibly partial shade. They require a light, fertile and humus-bearing soil and appreciate a fertiliser input. They don't tolerate high temperatures combined with significant humidity very well. You can plant your nemesias in a flowerbed as well as in pots. In pots, these plants must be watered regularly. Planting should be done as soon as the frost ends, in spring. During summer, in periods of high temperature, do not hesitate to prune the plant severely (10-15 cm (4-6in) from the base) between two flowerings in order to promote the formation of new flowering shoots.
