Phlox paniculata Red Flame

Phlox paniculata 'Red Flame' is part of a series of phlox with a very branched and compact growth, which has early and abundant flowers, and is more resistant to mildew. This variety offers particularly colourful flowers throughout the summer, in a bright cherry red shade, which are pleasantly fragrant. It is an excellent variety to place at the forefront of flower beds or in a planter on the patio. Make beautiful bouquets with its flowers that last well in a vase.

Phlox paniculata 'Red Flame' belongs to the family of Polemoniaceae. It is one of the latest of the excellent 'Flame' series, developed by Bartel's Breeding in the Netherlands.  It is a perennial plant with a woody stump forming a dense clump of leafy stems not exceeding 40-45 cm (16-18in) in height and 30-35 cm (12-14in) in width. The stems, rigid and strong, are covered with dark but vibrant green leaves, measuring 12 cm (5in) in length. The flowering, earlier than that of most large phlox, begins in June-July, and continues until September, provided that faded flowers are regularly removed. The fuchsia pink buds open into small tubular corolla flowers, in a bright red-pink colour, with a dark red throat that is very noticeable. They are grouped at the end of erect, dense and pyramidal panicles, 15 cm (6in) in length, which are wonderfully fragrant.  The flowers are melliferous and nectariferous.

The varieties in the Flame series add disease resistance, fragrance, and excellent performance in flower beds to all these qualities. The Phlox 'Red Flame' can be combined with its siblings from the 'Flame' series (Blue Flame, Violet Flame, Pink Flame) with dwarf asters, white or pink lilies, intense blue perennial flax, or white flowers of miniature roses with which it forms a very cheerful ensemble.  Phlox paniculata ''Red Flame'' is a top-notch perennial to brighten up flower pots that will adorn balconies and patios.
