The rose bush has recovered well. The branches are thin but long. I really like its flowers that grow in clusters. As for the scent, it smells strongly of aniseed!

Description

The Rosa generosa 'Chantal Mérieux' is a bush rose with diverging branches that give a charmingly disordered impression. When flowering appears in June, order is restored with the blossoming of large double flowers. The flowers are shaded pink with carmine and emit a powerful fragrance of rose, raspberry, myrrh, anise, and cider depending on the atmosphere.

The roses are isolated or in groups of three, each with its petals neatly arranged in quarters. The flowering of this rosa generosa is very perpetual, until October. It is accompanied by deciduous green foliage that is glossy. This bush is very hardy.

When fully grown, the Rosa generosa 'Chantal Mérieux' rose can reach a height of 1m (3ft). You can cultivate it in flowerbeds or as a solitary plant, as well as in a pot on your terrace or balcony. Its flowers make beautiful bouquets.

Planting and care

Roses prefer a sunny location (at least 4 to 5 hours of sun per day) but sheltered from the scorching midday rays and strong winds. They appreciate loose, permeable, deep, and fertile soils. They prefer a neutral to slightly acidic soil, but will adapt to any garden as long as the soil is well worked and sufficiently rich. To plant your rose in a pot, work the soil to a depth of 25 cm (10in) by crumbling the soil and placing a basal amendment such as dried blood or dehydrated horn, position your seedling in the hole by covering the top of the root ball with 3 cm (1in) of soil, fill in and water generously to remove air pockets. In dry weather, it is necessary to water regularly for a few weeks to facilitate rooting. Also, remember to provide your rose with special rose fertiliser that stimulates plant flowering. Prune the branches by one third each spring.
