Description

The Rosier Generosa - 'Festival des Jardins de Chaumont' has the charm of old varieties, with its numerous double flowers, well-formed, a very warm apricot pink at the opening, fading to a soft pink at the periphery and over the hours. Original, very present with its fruity scent of tea rose, the flowering is well continuous, uninterrupted from May to the first frosts because it is a Generosa. This bush's graceful, flexible and rather low habit emphasises its resemblance to tea roses. Perfect for all gardens, ideal in mass plantings or as a solitary plant, its modest size allows it to be grown in large pots on the patio.

The Rosa Generosa 'Festival des Jardins de Chaumont' is a bush rose with a flexible, bushy, slightly spreading habit. At maturity, this rose will reach about 80 cm (32in) in height and 1 m (3ft) in width. The flowering begins in May and will only stop with the arrival of frost. The plant produces countless buds that open into rose-orange bouquets. The flowers are double, 8 cm (3in) wide, sun-resistant. They are born in turbinate buds and then open into double rosettes, formed in quarters. They have a strong scent of rose and ripe fruits. The foliage is very healthy, deciduous, dark green to enhance the flowering, and requires little maintenance. This bush is very hardy.

The 'Festival des Jardins de Chaumont' rose stands out with its original flowering in warm tones, which will enhance any shrub or perennial mass planting or give a charming touch to the terrace. Some perennial plants and grasses are ideal to enhance its beauty and accompany it late in the season. Combine it with Geranium macrorrhizum, Geranium Pink Cloud, Geranium grandiflorum, Panic, Nepeta Walker's Low or perennial Delphiniums. It will look good as a solitary plant and in a pot on your patio or balcony. Its flowers make beautiful romantic bouquets in the company of peonies and lilacs.

Planting and care

Rose bushes need sunlight for 4-5 hours every day, but it's best to protect them from the strong sun and wind. They grow best in loose, permeable soil that is rich in humus. The soil should be well-cultivated and rich enough, but they can also grow in any type of soil.

If you're planting them in a pot, loosen the soil to a depth of 10 inches and add a base amendment like blood, fish and bone at the bottom of the planting hole. Position the plant and cover the top of the root ball with 1 inch of soil. Fill in the hole, press down the soil, and water generously to eliminate air pockets. Water regularly during dry weather for a few weeks to help the roots develop. Use special rose fertilisers to promote flowering.

Roses may develop unsightly spots at the end of summer, but this is a natural occurrence and doesn't harm the rose's growth.
