Description

The Generosa Rosebush 'Guy Darmet' will charm you with its great disease resistance, highly fragrant flowering, and remarkable vigour. It tirelessly produces bouquets of 9 to 10 small flowers, blending cherry red and lilac pink, discreetly doubled with pale yellow and cream, in semi-double cups, retaining 17 to 25 undulated petals. 'Guy Darmet' is a carefree and truly generous rosebush, which will easily find its place in the garden, either in a mass planting or as a standalone. Its strongly scented flowers are sublime in bouquets.

The Generosa roses are modern roses with the appearance of old-fashioned roses. They combine the charm of antique roses with the robustness and long flowering of modern roses. 'Guy Darmet' is a bushy rosebush with a rather upright habit. At maturity, it will reach about 1.2 metres (4 feet) in height and 80 cm (32in) in width. The flowering begins in May and will only stop with the arrival of the first frosts. The plant produces countless buds that open into bouquets full of cheerfulness, where red dominates pink and touches of pale yellow. The moderately sized flowers are semi-double, quite flat, 6 cm (2in) wide, with a reflexed shape: in this configuration, the rather flat petals with slightly undulated tips fall irregularly around the calyx. The heart petals are the last to bloom. These roses show excellent durability. They emit a powerful fragrance of old-fashioned rose. The foliage is healthy, deciduous, and fairly light green with purple margins. This bush is very hardy.

The 'Guy Darmet' rosebush stands out with its exuberant flowering in cheerful tones and the robust health that makes it accessible to beginner gardeners or those who lack time. Some perennial plants and grasses are ideal for enhancing its brilliance and accompanying it late in the season. For example, combine it with bellflowers, Geranium macrorrhizum, Geranium 'Pink Cloud', Geranium grandiflorum, Panicum, Nepeta 'Walker's Low', or perennial Delphiniums. It will look good as a standalone plant and in a pot on your terrace or balcony. Its flowers make beautiful, sumptuous bouquets in the company of peonies and lilacs.

Planting and care

Rose bushes need sunlight for 4-5 hours every day, but it's best to protect them from the strong sun and wind. They grow best in loose, permeable soil that is rich in humus. The soil should be well-cultivated and rich enough, but they can also grow in any type of soil.

If you're planting them in a pot, loosen the soil to a depth of 10 inches and add a base amendment like blood, fish and bone at the bottom of the planting hole. Position the plant and cover the top of the root ball with 1 inch of soil. Fill in the hole, press down the soil, and water generously to eliminate air pockets. Water regularly during dry weather for a few weeks to help the roots develop. Use special rose fertilisers to promote flowering.

Roses may develop unsightly spots at the end of summer, but this is a natural occurrence and doesn't harm the rose's growth.
