Hydrangea macrophylla Bright White

The Hydrangea or Hydrangea macrophylla 'Bright White' is a variety that will charm with its white ball-shaped flowers, dark green foliage, and compact habit suitable for small spaces. It is a beautifully rounded, ornamental shrub from summer to autumn. This hydrangea is simple, elegant, and bright, perfect in a large pot or a small shaded bed. Plant it in a rich, humus-bearing soil that remains slightly moist.

The Hydrangea macrophylla 'Bright White' is a recent horticultural creation derived from H. macrophylla, the bigleaf hydrangea. Hydrangeas belong to the hydrangea family and are native to China and Japan. 'Bright White' is a fairly rapid-growing bush, showing a compact, dense, rounded habit and harmoniously formed vegetation. It reaches an average of 1m in all directions when fully mature in open ground. Its flowering takes place from June to July to September to October, in the form of spherical inflorescences, is very compact and is of good size (14-15 cm). They are composed of numerous simple sterile florets with four petals. They open in a pale green shade and then become pure white. The flowering spreads over dark green, glossy, deciduous foliage that falls in autumn. The wide leaves are opposite, reaching a minimum length of about ten centimetres. They are simple, ovate, ending in a tapered point, coarsely toothed like a saw. Hydrangeas can live for at least 50 years.

The 'Bright White' Hydrangea is a hydrangea that will be highlighted in the garden or on the terrace, alone or in the company of a double pink variety ('You and Me Romance') or a purple to brown one like 'Chocolate Ever Belles Hokomachoko' for example. Hydrangeas are well known for brightening the north side of houses. This one will thrive in non-burning east or west exposure, full sun or partial shade, beds, and isolation. This 'Bright White' variety is particularly suitable for container cultivation, and it can be placed on the balcony or near the entrance. Although hydrangeas are sensitive to limestone, they are not strictly speaking ericaceous plants. Pair them with Fuchsia magellanica, annual impatiens, or plant spring bulbs in front of their round silhouette. Enjoy their sumptuous flowering in the garden or the house for a long time.
