Very beautiful vine-plant with flowers of a soft creamy white, whose recovery went wonderfully, growing and blooming continuously since its reception in May (we are now late June). Everything is therefore perfect! Highly recommended without a shadow of hesitation. A big thank you to you :-)

Description

Hydrangea macrophylla 'The Bride', like the other varieties in the Endless Summer® series, is a particularly abundant and perpetual flowering bush. This one is a beautiful newcomer adorned with big globular white flower heads, which can turn pale pink in weakly acidic or neutral soil. This hydrangea can be pruned with shears at the gardener's discretion, is not afraid of late frosts, and is hardy up to -30°C (-22°F). It will bloom from the beginning of summer until October. There are so many reasons to plant it, even if you are a beginner gardener!

'The Bride' belongs to the Hydrangeaceae family, native to China and Japan. It is part of a series of American varieties selected for their excellent ability to reflower throughout the season, both on one-year-old branches and on the branches of the current year. It is very hardy with a rounded bushy habit, almost as wide as it is tall, about 1.3m (4ft) tall and 1.4m (5ft) wide. From June until October, its ball-shaped inflorescences measuring 18 to 20cm (7 to 8in) in diameter are constantly renewed. They fade into a texture resembling paper, taking on pretty, muted shades. The foliage turns yellow in autumn before falling. In summer, the flowering is accompanied by dark green foliage. The leaves are opposite, reaching a minimum length of about 10cm (4in). They are simple, ovate to elliptical, with a pointed tip.

Hydrangeas are sturdy and faithful plants that live and bloom for many years in the garden. These bushes are well known for brightening the north side of houses. This variety will thrive in flower beds as well as hedges, but it truly deserves a prime location, near a terrace or close to an entrance. Even though these plants dislike limestone, hydrangeas are not strictly ericaceous plants; they tolerate neutral soils. Pair them with Magellan fuchsias or the curious climbing Fuchsia hatschbachii, or annual impatiens. Alternatively, plant spring-flowering bulbs in front of their round silhouette. Enjoy their magnificent flowers for a long time, in the garden or in bouquets at home.

Planting and care

Plant in spring or early autumn, preferably in a semi-shaded position, for example against an east-facing wall, or even north-facing. Protect it from cold and drying winds. This variety tolerates a few hours of sun per day, in the morning. It doesn't necessarily require acidic soil, but it appreciates deep, moist but well-drained, fairly fertile soil, possibly enriched with a good fertiliser before planting. If planting near a wall and the soil is dry at its base, place the root ball at least 30 to 40cm (12 to 16in) away from it and incorporate a quantity of well-decomposed compost to better retain moisture in the soil. Very hardy, it can be planted in cold regions.

As for pruning, remove the faded flowers on the first bud or on the pair of buds directly below. When the plant is mature, prune the older stems back to the base by a quarter or a third. This will encourage the formation of young shoots. Carry out this pruning every year during March and April.
