Planting and care

At planting the soil needs to be worked to a depth of 40 x 40 cm (16 x 16 in). A good base fertilieer (e.g. dried horn or blood) will promote the growth of your plant and nourish it without the risk of burning the roots. Hydrangeas require a sunny or partially shaded site depending on the ground moisture level. Soil should be neutral to acidic. If your soil tends to be dry, mix in the moisture retainer Stockosorb when filling the planting hole, and create a water-retaining trench on the surface, around the plant. We recommend leaving the dried flower umbels on the bush at the end of summer, as they will protect the terminal shoots of the branches in winter. You can cut all the dry flowers at the end of February or at the first signs of good weather. Pot cultivation is also very easy if you use sufficiently deep pots (40 to 50 cm (16 to 20in)), water correctly, and regularly provide fertiliser.

Hydrangea paniculata: These shrubby hydrangeas with elongated flower clusters are resistant to drought and easily adapt to non-acidic soil. They bloom generously from June until the first frost. When planted in full sun, their blooms change colour in autumn.
