Hydrangea in a large box containing a pot naked of everything except for a stake!! I hope this flower will shoot, but I am somewhat disappointed. I wanted to point it out because it's not really what I was expecting, considering the price is quite high.

Description

With the abundance and lightness of its large white panicles tinged with green, turning creamy white, Hydrangea paniculata Dentelle de Gorron is an early-flowering French novelty. From the end of June, it transforms into a large bush covered in feathery lace. Its ramified vegetation, rounded habit and moderate growth are additional assets for planting at the back of a bed in a sunny or semi-shaded hedge.

Hydrangea paniculata is a particularly hardy species belonging to the Hydrangeaceae family, originally from China and Japan. The 'Dentelle de Gorron' variety, from which it is derived, displays the habit of a large rounded bush, quickly reaching 2 m (6 ft 7 in) to 2.5 m (8 ft) in height and 2 m (6 ft 7 in) in width, which remains moderate for a paniculate hydrangea. From the end of June, large conical panicles blossom on the year's wood; these are quite loose and measure 30 to 35 cm (11.8 to 13.8 in) in height. They bring together numerous single sterile florets, carried by long pedicels, which transition from a light green shade to cream-white. This inflorescence, where a few tiny sterile florets mingle, bends with elegance, giving off a great impression of lightness. 'Dentelle de Gorron' features ramified vegetation and strong branches covered with dark green, ovate leaves, which turn yellow in autumn before disappearing in winter.

Hydrangea paniculata distinguishes itself from its cousin, Hydrangea macrophylla, by its good tolerance to sun, sea spray and relative drought. Installed in any good garden soil without too much limestone, Hydrangea paniculata 'Dentelle de Gorron' shows rapid growth. It is a very hardy variety, to be planted alone, in a hedge or in a bed, or in light undergrowth, mixed with other hydrangeas to play with contrasts and forms. You can also combine it with grasses like Miscanthus, Panicum virgatum Squaw and Stipa.

Planting and care

Hydrangea paniculata Dentelle de Gorron is not very demanding about the nature of the soil, as long as it is not too heavy and not too chalky. It requires a sunny but not scorching exposure, or partial shade. When planting, install it in a deeply worked soil. A good base fertiliser (horn or dried blood) will promote the recovery of your plant and nourish it without risk of burning. If your soil is on the dry side, mix our STOCKOSORB® water retainer with the soil while filling in the planting hole, and provide for a surface watering basin.

At the end of summer, we advise you not to cut the dry panicles which will protect the terminal shoots of the branches in winter; you should cut all the dry flowers at the end of February or on the first summer days. The plant's spring vegetation appears rather late.

Hydrangea Paniculata: these shrubby hydrangeas with elongated inflorescences are drought-resistant and easily installed even in non-acidic soil. They bloom generously from June until the first frosts. When planted in the sun, their inflorescences change colour in the autumn.

Hydrangea paniculata Dentelle de Gorron should be pruned short at the end of winter to produce more large inflorescences.

Care

Pruning instructions Prune the faded inflorescences at the end of winter and, if necessary, cut back the branches to half their height in order to maintain a squat habit. As the plant flowers on the year's wood, this procedure will not impede flowering, but, on the contrary will stimulate it, if pruning is carried out at the end of winter.
Pruning Pruning recommended once a year
Pruning time March to April
Soil moisture Moist soil
Disease resistance Very good
Overwinter Can be left in the ground
