Description

New selection with opulent white flowers mixed with pink and red, the 'Vanille Fraise' paniculate hydrangea is an excellent bush variety for full sun.

This variety, unlike its counterparts, grows in the sun and tolerates summer drought and limestone soils much better than traditional macrophylla hydrangeas.

Also later, flowering begins as early as July and extends until October. This variety is characterized by large paniculate flowers measuring 20-25cm (7.9 - 9.8 in) in length. It presents both flowers in pink and white shades mixed together. As the panicles fade, they take on shades of crimson red, thus extending the ornamental interest of the bush. The 'Vanille Fraise' paniculate hydrangea is a tall bush that can reach a height of 2.50m (8.2ft).

This new variety, awarded in the 2006 competitions, is planted as a standalone plant and is often used to create a small privacy hedge. It can be associated in a pink garden with ground cover roses, pink gauras, 'Lilac Beauty' yarrows mixed with the grey leaves of ludoviciana armoises.

Planting and care

This hydrangea requires a sunny location to obtain autumn colouration and a humus-bearing soil. Plant it in deeply worked soil. A good base fertilizer (fish blood and bone) will promote the growth of your plant and nourish it without the risk of burning. If your soil tends to be dry, mix our water retainer, stockosorb, with the soil when filling the planting hole and provide a watering basin on the surface. At the end of summer, we recommend not cutting the dry umbels, as they will protect the terminal shoots of the branches in winter. You can cut all the dry flowers at the end of February or at the first signs of good weather. Their spring vegetation is quite late. Hydrangea Paniculata: These shrubby hydrangeas with elongated inflorescences are drought-resistant and easily establish themselves even in non-acidic soil. They bloom generously from July until the first frost. When planted in the sun, their inflorescences take on autumn colours.
