Planting and care

The Lilac bush appreciates planting in full sun, in soil that remains fairly moist and well-drained. It can tolerate any type of soil, but prefers slightly alkaline soils and is sensitive to strongly acidic soils. It will grow well in partially shaded areas, but flowering may be reduced. Easy to grow, it only requires mulching in dry climates to maintain some moisture. Water it during the first few years in case of significant drought. You can cut the flowering branches to make beautiful bouquets, or at the end of the flowering period to encourage the appearance of new flowers and avoid exhausting the bush. Avoid severe pruning that limits the spring flowering, unless your Syringa is becoming too large.
