Description

The Juno Iris or Magnifica forms lovely clumps, thanks to its foliage resembling that of corn, and its abundant flowering.

The Magnifica Iris has bicoloured flowers with white sepals with pale blue tips and white petals. It can reach a height of 30 to 60cm (12 to 24in). The flowering can last up to 5 weeks during the months of April-May.

This Iris is very hardy, it likes neutral to alkaline soils, but well-drained and rich.

The Magnifica iris goes very well with muscari as well as with other bulbous plants with blue flowers.

Planting and care

Plant the bulbs in September-October, in a sunny location, in well-drained soil, at a depth of 10 cm (4in), preferably in groups spaced 8 cm (3in) apart. Cut the faded flowers at their base, being careful to leave the stem. Continue to water the plants at their base. Once the foliage has turned yellow, remove it and leave the bulbs in place for them to flower again the following year. After flowering, water them three times with liquid fertilizer at one-month intervals. Leave the bulbs in place for several years.
