Description

This Flower mix for beneficial insects is a very attractive mix of perennial and messicolous flowers (annual plants found in cultivated fields, such as poppies and cornflowers) that attracts and maintains beneficial insects in the garden. It is a particularly effective way to regulate aphid populations because this selection of flowers attracts, feeds, and retains hoverflies, capable of consuming between 400 and 500 aphids during its 10-day larval stage. It is sown along the edges of vegetable gardens, orchards, and even in containers from March to May, for flowering from June to September.

The use of flowers and insect shelters is part of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) practices.

Gardener's tip: to easily obtain a beautiful meadow, we recommend using the "false sowing" technique: 15 days to 3 weeks before sowing, prepare your soil by loosening and raking it finely. Water it and wait for the weed seeds to germinate. When they reach the seedling stage, destroy them with a hoe and then proceed with the actual sowing.

Planting and care

Preparing the ground before sowing

Preparing the plot to be sown is an important step. It is important to weed if necessary (with a lot of foresight you can cover the ground with cardboard a few months before), then loosen and rake it in order to create a beautiful seedbed.

Sowing

Sow by broadcasting and cover the seeds using a rake to stop the birds from eating them. Carry out initial watering with a fine mist to keep the soil moist until germination.

To perpetuate your meadow, let the annual flowers go to seed before mowing.
