Marigold or Calendula officinalis is an annual plant that easily self-seeds. The marigold is a useful plant in both the garden and the vegetable patch as it repels many parasites and attracts many pollinating insects. The flowers can be double or single and come in various shades of yellow to orange, depending on the variety. This flower is unrivalled in brightening up a flower bed with its flowering period from June until the first frosts. Sow the Marigold in a sunny, well-drained soil, and the plant will easily self-seed thereafter.
