Very pretty in September, I transferred them from the planter to the open ground, and in November they are still in flower.

Description

This Calendula Powerdaisy Tango is a brand new hybrid marigold that stands out for its exceptionally long, inexhaustible flowering from spring to autumn. For weeks, a multitude of small double to semi-double daisies in a bright orange color, which do not produce seeds, follow one another. These blooms cover a very regular, dark green vegetation dome, with an impeccable appearance throughout the season. The other advantage of this marigold lies in its good resistance to diseases and challenging weather conditions. A wonderful plant for containers and borders, also beautiful in hanging baskets. To be grown in well-drained soil, in full sun or partial shade.

The Calendula Powerdaisy Tango belongs to a new line of horticultural hybrids developed in England, characterized by early and prolonged flowering, a compact habit, and excellent disease resistance. This sterile plant is the result of cross-breeding between Calendula officinalis, the pot marigold, C. maritima (a rare wild species), and C. suffruticosa, with a shrub-like habit. All these plants, relatives of the French Marigold, belong to the Asteraceae family.

The Calendula Powerdaisy Tango is a hardy herbaceous perennial plant, usually grown as an annual, except in very mild climates. It quickly forms a beautiful bushy and ramified clump from the base, reaching 40 cm (1 ft 42") in all directions, covered with dark green, slightly scented foliage tinged with olive green. The flowering extends from April (sometimes as early as March) to October-November, without requiring any particular pruning. Its flowers are organized in double heads, measuring 3 to 4 cm (1.3-1.7") in diameter, displaying a light and bright, very uniform orange colour all the way to the center of the inflorescence.

Resistant to drought, rain, and bad weather, decorative with its flowering and foliage 9 months out of 12, this new calendula is a plant created for all gardens and all climates. It requires very little maintenance and works wonders as a ground cover in sunny borders, as well as in flower pots and hanging baskets. It can be planted in small clusters amidst the grey foliage of artemisias and stachys, with California poppies, red or blue shrubby salviae, or surrounded by greenery, by combining it with tansies, Kochia Childsii, or small ornamental grasses that will soften its striking colour. Calendula is also an edible flower, to be consumed in moderation, which can be enjoyed in salads, soups, or desserts. Some believe that its flavour resembles that of pepper.

Please note - warning: our young plants in mini-pots are professional products intended for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, transfer the to and store them in a sheltered location (veranda, greenhouse, cold frame...) at a temperature above 14°C for a few weeks before planting outdoors once the risk of frosts has definitively passed.

Planting and care

Marigolds are fast-growing plants that thrive in full sun or partial shade in warm climates, and in sheltered locations. This hardy Powerdaisy Tango hybrid variety can withstand temperatures as low as -5°C, but can also tolerate less favourable growing conditions (cool and humid climates) as long as it is planted in well-drained, fairly fertile, and light soil. Since its flowers do not go to seed, there is no need to remove the faded flowers for other than aesthetic purposes. Protect the plants from slugs and snails, which are fond of them. You can overwinter your pots in an unheated greenhouse or a bright, minimally heated room.
