I have already contacted you about this and sent you the photos. I confirm that I was very disappointed by the condition of the plants upon arrival.

This pretty clematis bears flowers that are initially raspberry-red before evolving to dark pink with light pink margins. This variety produces an abundance of flowers as early as May. It blooms again in August-September, after the summer heat. This perennial climber has voluble stems and graceful foliage composed of ovate, pointed, bright green leaflets. Its growth will not exceed 1.5m (5ft) in height, making it suitable for small spaces as well as for pot cultivation on patios or balconies. This deciduous plant is hardy and easy to grow. Its generous flowering will add vertical interest to gardens. Give it a bright location without direct sunlight in well-drained, moist and rich soil.

Description

Clematis 'Hania' is a Polish variety that bears raspberry-red flowers, becoming distinctly bicoloured at maturity with bright red centres and light pink margins. This floriferous clematis has a modest growth habit, making it an ideal choice for decorating small spaces and for container gardening on a patio or balcony. Its long climbing stems are adorned with light, vibrant green foliage that quickly forms a graceful blanket for trellises, fences, walls, and borders. Perfectly hardy and robust, it appreciates partially shaded positions and well-drained, rich soil that stays moist, especially in summer.

The genus Clematis belongs to the Ranunculaceae family. Clematis 'Hania' is a horticultural variety obtained by Szczepan Marczynski in 1993, Poland. Introduced in 2001, it is the result of cross-breeding with C. 'Rouge Cardinal'.

It is a woody, climbing perennial plant with short stems, reaching a height of 1.5m (5ft) with a spread of 1m (3ft). The deciduous leaves fall in winter. They are a vibrant green colour and composed of 3 ovate to lanceolate leaflets, measuring 3 to 7cm (1 to 3in) long and 1.5 to 5cm (1 to 2in) wide, with relatively prominent veins. The round-shaped single flowers consist of 6 to 7 oval to rounded tepals, overlapping and pointed at the ends. They are 10 to 15cm (4 to 6in) in diameter. The flowers are initially raspberry-red when they open, becoming bicoloured at maturity with a dark fuchsia-pink centre and light pink margins. The stamens are white with cream-yellow anthers. The flower colour tends to fade when fully open, especially when the plant is grown in very sunny positions. This clematis attaches itself to supports or host plants through its climbing stems, which have petioles transformed into tendrils. The flowers are followed by decorative silver fruits that persist until winter.

Plant your clematis alongside  climbing roses or vines to extend the flowering period of walls and pergolas until the end of summer. This is a genus rich in diversity, with varieties available in all colours, shapes, and sizes. Take advantage of their easy cultivation to give your garden a romantic and bohemian touch. To prevent the plant from suffering from heat and drying out at its base, place your clematis in the shade of a perennial ground cover plant or a bush. Thanks to its medium to small size, 'Hania' will easily find a place in a small garden and will be perfectly happy in a pot on a balcony or next to an entrance door, embracing a small bamboo structure to welcome visitors with its colourful flowers. These bicoloured flowers pair well with shrubs and perennials in golden tones. Consider Mexican orange trees, the chartreuse flowers of lady's mantle, or golden hops. Alternatively, combine it with paniculate hydrangeas like 'Diamant Rouge' or a white-flowering climbing rose such as 'Aimée Vibert' or 'Blush Noisette'.

Planting and care

Choose a clear, sunny exposure that is not too hot, or a partially shaded area. In sunny exposures, shade the base of your clematis with a ground cover plant or a perennial geranium. Clematis plants like to have their roots cool. Work the soil to a depth of 20cm (8in), and lighten it with good compost and coarse sand. Position the plant and cover the root ball with 3cm (1in) of soil. Water generously and regularly during the first few weeks. Do not overwater as this can lead to the development of a fungus at the collar.

Clematis cling on their own thanks to their tendrils. To promote their growth, provide them with a trellis support or let them dress the trunk of a tree by placing a wire mesh against the trunk for the clematis to climb on. Clematis also like to grow freely on neighbouring plants.

In early spring, prune the previous year's stems to about 15 to 20 cm (6 to 8in) above the ground, above a pair of large buds.

It is easy to cultivate in a large pot, filled with good horticultural compost.
