Our wine grape varieties, also known as grape varieties for winemaking, are grapevine varieties grown for their grapes intended for winemaking. They are selected for the balance between sugars and acidity, their aromatic potential and, in black grape varieties, the tannins and pigments contained in the skin. Plant a few vine-plants and discover the pleasure of growing grapevines and harvesting grapes at home!

Merlot, emblematic of the Bordeaux wine region, produces colourful, rounded and supple red wines. Pinot noir, associated with Burgundy, is prized for the finesse and aromatic complexity of its wines. Along with Chardonnay, it is also used to make Champagne. In Italy, Nebbiolo is the sole grape variety used in the famous Barolo, produced in Piedmont. The character of the wine is closely linked to the soil, climate, maturity of the grapes and winemaking.

Your project starts with choosing a grape variety capable of ripening in your garden. A sunny position, well-drained soil and suitable pruning result in a better crop. To find out everything you need to know, consult our guide "Grapevine: choosing the right variety"
