Agastache foeniculum ‘Celestia™’ belongs to the Lamiaceae family. It is also known as anise hyssop or giant hyssop. The type species is native to the meadows, hills and open forests of central and northern United States and Canada, particularly in the regions of Minnesota, Wisconsin, Colorado, Ontario and British Columbia. It is a long-lived herbaceous perennial with a taproot.
The cultivar ‘Celestia™’, bred by Danziger around 2025, offers better branching, particularly generous flowering, more even growth, improved rooting and greater heat tolerance.
‘Celestia™’ has an erect, bushy, well-branched tufted habit and is fast-growing. In the ground, the plant reaches 60-70 cm in height and 50 cm in width. It does not produce offshoots, but may self-seed in suitable soil. Its flowering spans from June to September-October. Flowers appear even on young plants. The two-lipped, tubular flowers are gathered in broad, dense, cylindrical spikes, 8 to 15 cm long, at the tips of the stems. They are lavender-blue to mauve, sometimes tinged purple, and produce nectar which attracts pollinating insects. The deciduous foliage is medium green with paler undersides; it dies back in winter. The triangular leaves, toothed along the edges and opposite on the stems, measure 8 to 10 cm long. They are slightly downy and release a strong aniseed scent when bruised.
