Thanks to Clothilde from order preparation and ? from the shipping department, the rose bush received is healthy. Planted near the specific research area "The Pilgrim" variety, I am now waiting to see its progress... Will it thrive or not?

Description

English Rose Port Sunlight is a reliable variety, repeat flowering and vigorous. It produces medium-sized flowers, exuding a rich tea fragrance, of an intense apricot colour, gradually lightening to a pale apricot on the outer part of the corolla. The foliage is healthy and highly resistant to diseases. It is of medium size, suitable for the back of perennial borders and easily integrates into a flowering hedge.

This rather upright rose bush reaches a height of 1.50m (5ft) with a spread of about 1m (3ft), growing rapidly. Its foliage and young vigorous shoots emerge as bronze-red before turning a fairly dark green. It is remarkably healthy.

This rose forms a large bush, ideal for creating a backdrop, at the back of perennial borders or with light annuals such as gypsophila, phlox or love-in-a-mist. It tolerates competition from the roots of other plants, which allows it to be planted in a flower shrub border or even a landscaped hedge. It will be beautifully showcased in front of a boxwood or yew screen, or, alternatively, surrounded by a miniature hedge, as seen in Italian or French gardens. If you have enough space, English, Old or Shrub Roses are magnificent when planted in groups of three. They will grow together to form a single opulent bush that will bloom even more generously.

This variety is named after the miniature village built by William Hesketh Lever in the Wirral, where you can admire a magnificent English Rose garden.

English Roses are well known for being repeat flowering and their flowers are renowned for being beautiful, rosettes with a strong fragrance.

Bred by David Austin in 2007.

Planting and care

Plant the English Rose Port Dunlight in a sunny or lightly shaded position. English roses are hardy but do not appreciate excessive limestone. They will adapt to any garden as long as the soil is well prepared, not too heavy, and sufficiently rich. To plant your rose, work the soil, crumbling it well, and add an amendment such as bonemeal to the bottom of the planting hole. Water thoroughly after planting to remove air pockets. Water regularly for a few weeks to encourage root growth.

Pruning English roses is essential for flowering. At the end of winter, in February-March, shorten the branches to 3-5 buds above the ground (at the lowest), choosing an outward-facing bud for a more elegant habit. Take advantage of this pruning to remove dead wood and unsightly branches. Prune at an angle above a bud. As the flowers bloom, remove faded flowers to stimulate the blooming of other buds.

Roses are often spotted or unsightly in late summer, but this is not a problem for their development. These spots are not harmful to the rose; it is a natural phenomenon.
