Description

Rosa Aria Babylon Eyes® is a hybrid of Rosa persica. It is a compact variety, with perpetual flowering and very healthy foliage, ideal for those looking for an easy to maintain and decorative bush. Its small single flowers with white petals, centred on a bright red eye, bring a touch of originality to borders, beds or even in pots. They succeed each other for months, to the delight of bees.

Selected by the Dutch company Interplant, this landscaping rose Aria Babylon Eyes® 'IPB1265-16' belongs to the group of hybrids Hulthemia persica, known for its very particular flowers. It is a small dense bush, reaching between 60 and 70 cm in height and around 50 cm in spread. The 5 to 6 cm diameter flowers, are single and slightly scented. They stand out with their white hue, sometimes pinkish on the edges, adorned with a large dark red eye in the centre. A characteristic inherited from its parent, the Persian rose.

The flowering is perpetual and continuous, from May until the end of autumn, offering several waves of flowers throughout the season. The foliage is dark green, with small toothed leaflets and a good natural resistance to common diseases like powdery mildew and black spot. This rose is particularly appreciated for its heat tolerance and dry soil adaptability, as well as its ability to thrive in full sun. It produces some fruits, called hips. The plant is leafless in winter.

Pleasantly exotic, drought-resistant and cold-resistant, Rosa Aria Babylon Eyes® will stand out in a large border, in a bed or in a pot on the terrace. 'Babylon Eyes' roses can be combined with each other, and with a variety of other plants like bushy salvias, catmints, lavenders, gauras, Chinese peonies

Planting and care

Rosa Aria Babylon Eyes is not very demanding on the type of soil, but it dislikes heavy and suffocating soils. It thrives in all sufficiently sunny regions, up to 1000 m altitude and is resistant to diseases, cold and drought once well established (very dry soil in summer will dry out the flowering). It adapts to all gardens, provided it is planted well! Plant it in ordinary, well worked and properly drained soil in a sunny location. Remove faded flowers to promote re-flowering. At the end of winter, in February-March, prune moderately, even with shears. It may be useful to remove dead wood in winter.

Roses are often stained, or unsightly at the end of summer, but this is not a problem for their development. These stains are not harmful to the rose, it is a natural phenomenon.
