More information

A lovely dwarf rose, with thornless stems, that forms a very pretty cushion 15 cm (6in) tall and 30 cm (12in) wide, covered in small single flowers, pink with a white centre, reminiscent of apple blossoms. The show continues throughout the summer, until the first cold weather. Its small light green foliage is resistant to diseases and it does not produce any fruits.

Description

Rose Cutie Pie is a very small rose that forms a tight mound and flowers for many weeks. It charms with its delicate wild rose flowers, pink with almost white centres, which bloom in hundreds on fresh green foliage. A true living bouquet, attractive to pollinators, this miniature rose is also very healthy and almost maintenance-free. Its thornless stems allow it to be placed anywhere in the garden, along a pathway, to fill a gap in a flowerbed, in a pot on the patio, a planter, a basin...

Rose Cutie Pie was recently selected in Japan by Tomoki Yokota. It is a hybrid rose with clustered flowers and a particularly compact cushion-like habit, repeat flowering with thornless stems. This variety will not exceed 15-20 cm (6-8in) in height and about 30 cm (12in) in width. The flowering repeats from June-July to September-October. Small 3 cm (1in) flowers, composed of 5-6 petals, appear on the new shoots. The colour of the flowers fades over time: at blooming, they are edged with bright pink turning to pale pink. The centre of the petals is almost white and the corolla's heart shows beautiful yellow stamens. The fragrance of the flowers is more or less pronounced. They are set on a very small, abundant and shiny foliage, which is light green, and shows resistance to diseases under good growing conditions. This variety does not produce fruits. Its resistance to cold and lack of water allow it to be grown in many regions.

This dwarf, groundcover, patio rose, Cutie Pie performs well in both open ground and deep pots and containers. It is perfect for edging a low border as well as for flowering a patio. Combine your Cutie Pie roses with other patio plants such as lobelias, nemesias, diascias or bidens. In open ground, its flowers, resembling apple blossom, go well with the feathery spikes of catmints, the spikes of lavender, and the small blue cups of perennial geraniums, as well as other small roses like Blue Boy or Pomponella...

Planting and care

Rose Cutie Pie prefers sunny locations.  Excess limestone can cause chlorosis. This rose is disease-resistant, but if you notice spotted or damage leaves, remove them immediately.  It is perfectly hardy in open ground, but in a pot, it will be more fragile, so protect it from the harshness of winter. To plant your rose, work the soil by crumbling it well and put an amendment at the bottom of the planting hole, such as bonemeal.  Water generously after planting to eliminate air pockets. Water regularly for a few weeks to facilitate rooting.  In a pot, use a mixture of garden soil and compost in a ratio of a third to two-thirds.  Don't forget the layer of clay balls or gravel for drainage. Under these conditions, ensure proper watering throughout the year. Regularly remove faded flowers in the heart of summer to stimulate the development of younger buds. Pruning simply involves reshaping the bush.
