I'm not sure if my rose bush will recover. Three branches are dead, and the fourth one is not thriving. I find the rose bush expensive considering its quality.

Description

The 'Lolita Lempicka' Rose, a true bush star of the Meilland collections since its introduction to the market in 2002, is a remarkably fragrant modern hybrid tea. Its large magenta roses release a complex and persistent olfactory bouquet rich in woody, floral, and fruity notes. The flowering is abundant and continues from May until the first frost, enhanced by a beautiful semi-matte dark green foliage, rarely disfigured by diseases. Lovely, large, long-lasting, and fragrant, these very 'haute couture' roses are perfect in a vase.

'Lolita Lempicka' or 'Meizincaro' is a modern bush rose with large flowers from the Romantica series, obtained by Jacques Mouchotte and Alain Meilland in 1998. It is also known as 'First Blush', 'Gift of Grace', 'Mainauduft', or 'Peter Mayle'. This excellent variety quickly forms a dense, bushy, and upright shrub that reaches about 1m (3ft) in height and 70cm (28in) in width at maturity. It produces strong, thorny, and well-branched branches, which bear dark green foliage with a satin finish and are very resistant to diseases. Throughout the summer, if faded flowers are removed, the plant continuously produces large 12cm (5in) diameter flowers with a typical turbinate shape of hybrid tea roses. They comprise 60 to 70 petals with a fringed edge, a deep pink colour that lightens slightly over time, and open to a tightly packed centre. They are solitary, carried at the ends of long shoots of the year or emerging from 2-year-old stems. During the flowering period, you will notice a strong scent of rose and jasmine with hints of apple, apricot, and lime. These fragrances create a woody and fruity aroma.

This 'Lolita Lempicka' rose captivates with its rich fragrance of old rose. Place it near the house so you can pick its beautiful roses at will to enhance all your bouquets. Some light-flowering perennial plants (Autumn Asters, Foxgloves, Penstemons, Panicled Baby's Breath), grasses, and catmints are ideal for enhancing its beauty and accompanying it late in the season. For example, pair it with Geranium Rozanne, Geranium Pink Cloud, Geranium grandiflorum, Panic, Nepeta Walker's Low, and bellflowers. This rose looks beautiful when placed in groups of three surrounded by silver baskets, aubrietas or Cerastostigma plumbaginoides. These plants will bloom successively at the base of the rose from spring to autumn. The rose can adapt to all soils except for chalky soil and can thrive in all climates. This makes it a great choice for any garden. The flowers of this rose can be arranged with pink or white peonies, irises, and white lilacs for an elegant bouquet. The blue-flowered herbaceous clematis (Clematis heracleifolia) will complement the pink roses.

Planting and care

To plant your 'Lolita Lempicka', choose a sunny or lightly shaded spot with well-worked soil that is not too heavy and has enough nutrients. Avoid planting in poor and excessively dry soils. Prepare the soil by crumbling it and adding an amendment, such as blood, fish and bone, at the bottom of the planting hole. After planting, water abundantly to remove air pockets and continue to water regularly for a few weeks to help the roots establish.

Pruning modern repeat flowering roses is important for flowering and should be done in three stages:

1. Regular maintenance pruning: During the season, regularly shorten the flowering branches and remove faded flowers along with their stem, leaving 2 or 3 leaves to encourage repeat flowering.

2. Preparatory autumn pruning: Lightly prune in preparation for the 'main' spring pruning. Note: This is not recommended in regions with cold winters as this could weaken the bush.

3. Spring pruning: In February-March, when the buds have become shoots 2 to 3 cm (1in) long, prune the young, strong branches to one-quarter of their length.

When pruning, always aim to remove dead wood, diseased branches, and weak shoots while opening up the centre of the bush. Retain the most vigorous branches, generally 3 to 6 well-positioned, to maintain an attractive habit. Always prune at a slant ½ cm or 1 cm (0in) above an outward-facing bud.

Roses may develop unsightly spots at the end of summer, but this is a natural occurrence and doesn't harm the rose's growth.
