The 'Novalis' Rose is one of the most disease-resistant purple-flowered roses, and the first in this colour range to have obtained the highly demanding German label A.D.R. In bloom from June to October, this bush from the Fairy series by Kordes is covered with clusters of fragrant roses, with round and full cups, pleasantly disheveled, in shades of mauve. This variety that lacks nothing is a charming asset for flower beds and romantic terraces! It performs well in partially shaded areas of the garden.
The Rosa x floribunda 'Novalis', sometimes marketed as 'Poseidon', is a Kordes creation dating back to 2010. It forms a neat bush 80 cm (32in) in height, 50-60 cm (20-24in) in width, with sturdy stems, covered with dark green foliage, finely toothed at the edges, slightly shiny, resistant to diseases. Its branches are thorny. Its flowering is long, lasting 5 to 6 months, in bloom from June to October. This bush renews in successive waves throughout the summer, its double roses measuring 8 to 10 cm (3 to 4in) in diameter, gathered in terminal clusters. The tightly closed pinkish-purple buds open into turbinate flowers, then give rise to roses with a rather unique appearance, with slightly serrated petals at the edges. The colour of the flowers is very stable, in a beautiful combination of pale lilac and soft mauve. These colours are best highlighted in partial shade. The fragrance of the flowers, reminiscent of tea roses, is of medium intensity.
Floribunda roses allow for the creation of beautiful small hedges, planted mixed along the edge of the terrace or in small shrub beds. Combine them with abelias, nandinas, or caryopteris for example. They are good companions for paniculate phlox and tall baby's breath. The sublime flowering of 'Novalis' complements that of English or purple roses, giving it a healthy appearance. This very hardy rose that requires little maintenance will thrive in full sun or partial shade, accompanied by a procession of romantic perennials such as foxgloves, baby's breath, paniculate phlox, and catmints. It will delight all gardeners, beginners or experienced.

Botanical data
Plant this floribunda rose from November to March, in ordinary, well-loosened and free-draining soil. Roses prefer clayey soils, rather heavy than light. In soil that is too sandy, too compact or too dry in summer, it is preferable to bury compost, decomposed manure or leaf-mould at the bottom of the planting hole. However, this rose dreads waterlogged soils in winter. Place it in a sunny position, at most in partial shade. Roses are greedy plants, a specific rose fertiliser application will be beneficial when the foliage emerges, then regularly during the entire flowering period.Â
To encourage re-blooming, regularly remove faded flowers. Floribunda rose varieties are more vigorous and floriferous than large-flowered rose varieties. Therefore, the stems should be pruned to about a quarter of their length (4 to 6 buds from the base of the stem) at the end of winter. Always prune above an outward-facing bud, so that the bush thickens and the branches do not become tangled in the centre of the shrub.

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
