It adapted well in its new pot before the arrival of winter. Very good recovery in the spring. I am looking forward to the flowering.

Description

Everything is giant with Hydrangea paniculata Levana, this new variety with unusual dimensions has both an imposing size and XXL flowers.

It was awarded at Courson in November 2012.

Taller than most other varieties, Hydrangea paniculata Levana can reach a height of 3m (9.8ft), which is a record considering that on average, other paniculatas barely exceed 2m (6 to 7ft) in height. In addition to its imposing size, its erect panicles of flowers can measure up to 40cm (15.7in) in length!

The flowers are also large, similar in size to the 'Great Star' variety, and very airy on the panicle, they are pure white and turn greenish as they fade. Its flowers are also used for making fresh and dried bouquets.

The deciduous foliage of the paniculate hydrangea is dark green, turning red in autumn. The growth habit is open.

This vigorous and robust variety has excellent hardiness. It likes bright locations and rich, moist soil. It can be planted as a specimen or in the back of borders, alongside Hosta 'Sum and Substance', Japanese anemones 'Honorine Jobert' or Cimicifuga simplex 'Atropurpurea'.

Planting and care

Plant your Levana paniculata hydrangea in deeply worked soil. A good base fertilizer (fish blood and bone) will promote the establishment of your plant and nourish it without the risk of burning. The paniculata hydrangea prefers humus-bearing soils but tolerates less fertile soils and drought. If your soil tends to be dry, mix our water retainer, stockosorb, with the soil when filling the planting hole, and provide a watering basin on the surface. Their spring vegetation is quite late. Water frequently during flowering, while avoiding direct watering of the foliage and flowers. At the end of summer, we advise you not to cut the dry umbels, as they will protect the terminal shoots of the branches in winter. Cut all the dry flowers at the end of February or at the first signs of good weather. Paniculata hydrangeas require vigorous pruning to develop large inflorescences.
