Description

Anemone blanda Pink Star is not well-known with its pink flowers with white centres. In Spring, its pastel colour works wonders under apple trees, flowering cherry trees or magnolias.

Also known as the Winter Windflower, this deciduous perennial spreads out 15 cm (6in) in small daisy-like pink flowers from March to April. Its stump produces light green leaves finely divided into 3 leaflets and stems carrying small foliage and flat cup-shaped flowers of 5 cm (2in). Be careful, it is toxic!

Anemone blanda Pink Star likes damp, well-drained, rich, preferably limestone and sunny soil. Used as a carpet at the base of deciduous trees or shrubs, rockeries, pots, borders, and beds, it tolerates partial shade.

A tip: we love mixing these flowers with the emerging foliage of peonies in spring!

Planting and care

Anemone Blanda Pink Star naturalises well, plant it in October in groups of 100 in the sun in good garden soil: 8 cm (3in) deep, spaced 8 cm (3in) apart and don't worry about the planting direction. Mulch in winter to protect the plant. Water well during summer. Our advice: You can leave this plant in place.  It is only after two or three years that it will reach its full potential.
