Planting and care

Plant in October-November. Bury the bulbs 8 to 10cm (3 to 4in) deep and 15 to 20cm (6 to 8in) apart. In very harsh climates, cover with a litter layer to protect from extreme cold. Flowering occurs in February-March. After flowering, wait for the leaves to turn yellow and wilt before digging up the bulbs, which should be stored dry until replanting the following autumn. The second-year flowering will generally be less beautiful than the first, but still suitable for bed decoration. Pot cultivation is possible.

Tip: Hyacinths are one of the few early flowering bulbs with large flowers. Reserve a special place for it in your garden. It will bring spectacular splashes of colour to your beds. Mix your hyacinths with other early bulbs like chionodoxas or early Tulipa humilis.
