Tulipa Triumph Spitsbergen

The Triumph Tulip Triumph 'Spitsbergen' bears a contrasting, sculptural flower, in a large, stout, dark purple cup, with burgundy red highlights, widely bordered in white in April and May at the top of a tall, sturdy stem. It is superb in the garden in a mass or border mixed with blue-violet flowers like muscari latifolium and the silver foliage of brunneras. This variety is magnificent in a bouquet.

The 'Spitsbergen' Tulip belongs to the Liliaceae family. Of horticultural origin, it is currently classified in the 'Triumph' group, whose main characteristic is flowers in a narrow cup. Perched on tall stems of 50 cm, well above the broadly lanceolate leaves, the wide cup-shaped flowers of 6 cm show six "petals" (more precisely tepals) of dark purple with red and brown highlights, widely edged in white. They are carried by solid, stately stems of a perfect length for bouquets. Flowering takes place in April and May, in the middle of the tulip season, which allows for numerous associations with other varieties and other flowers in the garden.

The 'Spitsbergen' Triumph Tulip finds a place in large flower beds in tight groups for a remarkable colour show. Combine it with other mauve, white, purple or chocolate tulips, this also allows to maximize the flowering duration of the beds. Pair it with daffodils, Caucasian forget-me-nots, wood hyacinths or Corsican hellebores and euphorbias to create original scenes. It can also be planted in borders, rockeries, flower beds, pots and containers. This tulip beautifies balconies and terraces very well. It perfectly accompanies tall perennials and contributes to the elegance of bouquets. In a vase, use very little water, a little at the bottom is enough! Moreover, if your tulips open too quickly, you can add two to three ice cubes in the vase every day.
