Description

The bulb of the multi-flowered Tulip 'Colour Spectacle' produces 3 to 7 sensational and highly contrasting flowers, whose golden yellow petals have flames of scarlet red. Its main stem branches out into secondary stems, each carrying a flower, ensuring a long and dazzling flowering at the end of the tulip season. The overall result is a variegated bouquet full of joy. This natural looking tulip is perfect for brightening up borders, flowerbeds, and planters, even in gloomy weather.

The 'Colour Spectacle' multi-flowered Tulip belongs to the lily family. Originating from horticulture, multi-flowered tulips branch out and have multiple flowers, resulting in a more staggered flowering time compared to other groups of tulips. Perched on 45 cm (18in) tall stems well above the broadly lanceolate leaves, the vibrant,  pure and intense golden yellow flowers, are randomly flamed with incandescent red and brushed with orange highlights. They start as narrow cup and open up into wide corollas. Flowering takes place in May, bringing the tulip season to a grand finale.

'Colour Spectacle' multi-flowered tulip fits well in all sunny flowerbeds. The extreme vibrancy of its flowering is enough and even manages to brighten up rainy spring days. Classic combinations include narcissus and daffodils, or for a different composition, Corsican hellebores, lady's mantle, and euphorbias. It can be planted in borders, rockeries, flowerbeds, pots and planters. It is ideal for creating elegant bouquets. When placing it in a vase, use very little water, just a small amount is enough! If your tulips open too quickly, you can add two to three ice cubes to the vase each day.

Planting and care

Plant the bulbs in autumn, from September to December, at a depth of 15 cm (6in), 10 cm (4in) apart in ordinary, slightly acidic, neutral, or slightly alkaline, loose, well-worked, and well-drained soil. Never add manure or poorly decomposed compost to the planting soil, as this could cause the bulbs to rot. The 'Colour Spectacle' tulip will thrive in soil which is moist to dry in summer, in a sunny or partially shady location. After flowering, it is best to remove the seed heads to avoid exhausting the plant.
