Tulipa 'Purple Bouquet'

The bulb of the 'Purple Bouquet' Tulip produces a floral stem that bears 3 to 7 small cup-shaped flowers, in a classic form, of a very beautiful purple, as durable in a bed as in a vase. The whole forms a bouquet with a very natural appearance, very different from the somewhat rigid habit that some tulips can have. It is often one of the first to bloom in tulip beds. Perfect in bouquets, borders, beds, and containers.

The 'Purple Bouquet' multiflower Tulip, introduced in 2008, belongs to the lily family. Of horticultural origin, multiflower tulips develop a ramified floral stem that gives rise to several smaller flowers, which bloom progressively. The floral stem stands at 40cm (16in) above the broadly lanceolate greenish-blue leaves. The petals of this tulip are thick in texture, with a nuanced violet-purple colour with mauve edges. In full sun, the flowers have magenta highlights. Initially in the form of a narrow cup, they open into wide corollas. Flowering takes place in April, at the beginning of the tulip season.

The 'Purple Bouquet' multiflower tulip finds its place in all sunny beds and borders. Its colour allows for bold combinations with orange tulips, or romantic ones with white, pink, blue, or mauve varieties. Pair it with daffodils, jonquils, hyacinths, or Corsican hellebores, Alchemillas, and Euphorbias, and you will obtain stunning scenes. It can also be planted with pansies in borders, rockeries, flower beds, as well as in pots and containers. This tulip beautifies balconies and terraces very well. It pairs perfectly with tall perennials such as peonies, and is ideal for creating elegant bouquets. In a vase, use very little water, just a bottom is enough! Moreover, if your tulips open too quickly, you can add two to three ice cubes to the vase every day.
