I chose this variety of Dahlia for its colour. I enjoy playing with the range of colours that dahlias offer. Unfortunately, I ended up with orange flowers (I can't remember the name on the packaging, but I threw it away), so I was a bit disappointed. However, the quality is always reliable with Promesse de Fleurs. The dahlia measured about 1 metre (3 feet) and was very prolific in flowering. I dug it up and will find a secluded spot in the garden for it next year. I have several varieties that I've bought from you over the years and I've managed to propagate them. Thank you for the quality.

Description

The Dahlia 'Nadia Ruth' is a variety of dentate cactus dahlias. The flowers with tapering petals and lacerated tips are pale pink and bloom from July to October.

This perennial has swollen tubercular roots. Gathered in bundles, these tubers produce upright, hollow and ramified stems, bearing compound leaves with rounded leaflets. Solid, fleshy spikes, 120cm (47in) tall, are topped with ligulate flowers in pale pink, tapering and lacerated at the ends, measuring 20cm (8in) in diameter.

The Dahlia 'Nadia Ruth' thrives in rich, clayey but healthy soil, deeply worked in warm and sunny conditions, sheltered from prevailing winds. It languishes in poor, sandy soils.

The Dahlia 'Nadia Ruth' is used in mixed flower beds with other varieties or for making bouquets.

Tips: When planting, consider the dimensions for the composition of your flower beds.

Planting and care

The Dahlia 'Nadia Ruth' should be planted from mid-April to early May at a depth of 10 to 15cm (4 to 6in) and with a spacing of 60cm (24in). Always stake the plant and attach the young shoots loosely. Apply slow-release compost or organic fertiliser during planting and liquid fertiliser once a month during growth—water without wetting the foliage. There is no need to remove buds from this variety. Treat against aphids and slugs. Dig up the tubers before the frost, cutting the stems to 15cm (6in) from the stump. Store them in a dark, cool, well-ventilated place that is not too damp—transplant in early May when the risk of frost has passed.
