Description

Dahlia 'Karma Prospero' is a variety of decorative dahlia with pink waterlily flowers that blooms from July to October.

This perennial has swollen, tubercular roots. Gathered in bundles, these tubers produce upright, hollow and branching stems, bearing compound, odd-pinnate leaves with rounded leaflets. Solid, fleshy stems, 90cm (35in) tall, are topped with flowers with wide, flattened, somewhat incurved ligules, 14cm (6in) in diameter, pink in colour.

Dahlia 'Karma Prospero' thrives in rich, clay but well-drained soil, deeply worked in a warm and sunny location, sheltered from prevailing winds. It languishes in poor, sandy soils.

The 'Karma Prospero' Dahlia is used in mixed flower beds or for making bouquets.

Tips: When planting, consider the dimensions for the composition of your flower beds.

Planting and care

The Dahlia 'Prospero' should be planted from mid-April to early May at a depth of 10 to 15cm (4 to 6in) and with 60cm (24in) spacing. Always stake and tie the young stems without tightening. Apply slow-release compost or organic fertiliser during planting and liquid fertiliser once a month during the growing season. Water without wetting the foliage. There is no need to remove buds on this variety. Treat against aphids and slugs. Dig up the tubers before the frost, cut the stems to 15cm (6in) from the stump. Store them in darkness in a cool, well-ventilated place that is not too damp. Transplant in early May when there is no longer a risk of frost.
