Description

Dahlia Organza is a decorative Dahlia. This generous Dahlia offers an abundant and dense flowering from July to the first frost. These 10 cm (4in) wide double flowers have wide and curved petals. These petals are pink, fading from the centre to the tip. These beautiful and upright flowers can be cut to create beautiful bouquets.

The deciduous foliage of the Dahlia consists of green leaves with 3 to 5 ovate leaflets, rounded at their end. They are opposite. This is a tall Dahlia that can reach a height of 1.10 m (4ft). Its stems are very firm. This non-hardy plant originates from Mexico. It was grown for its edible roots, which did not have any success. It was admired more for its flowers, which were picked to make charming fresh bouquets. Neglected, it is now coming back into fashion in gardens and on our tables.

Enjoyed in bouquets, it can also be grown in flower beds, borders, as well as in containers and pots on balconies and terraces. It can be found in vegetable gardens and flower bushes. It can be paired with other bulbous plants, whether they are perennials or annuals. It can also be grown individually.

Our advice: To make bouquets with Dahlia Organza, pick them early in the morning when the flower is fully open.

Planting and care

Dahlia Organza appreciates sunny spots in your garden. Place it in a soil of regular type, rich in humus, sandy, quite fertile and well-drained. Plant the bulbs at a depth of 10 cm (4in), spaced 40 cm (16in) apart. Planting should take place after the last frost, from May to June. Easy to grow, provide a nitrogen-rich fertiliser until the end of June, and then a potassium-rich fertiliser from July to October. These fertilisers should be applied once a week and will be beneficial for extending the flowering period. After planting, water regularly at the base, preferably in the evening, avoiding wetting the foliage. Watering is imperative during hot periods. Regularly remove faded flowers. After flowering, store the bulbs in a dry and well-ventilated place, preferably in sand and protected from rodents. A cellar is an ideal location. Before storing them, leave a few leaves in place so that the bulb can replenish its nutrient reserves, and wait for these leaves to turn yellow. You can replant them in spring.
