Description

The Dahlia 'Jowey Linda' is a variety of ball dahlia that offers spherical and compact flowers, in bright orange with a salmon reflection, reaching a height of 1.20m (4ft).

This perennial has tuberous roots, swollen. Gathered in bundles, these tubers produce upright, hollow and branched stems, bearing compound leaves with rounded leaflets. Solid, fleshy stalks, 1.20m (4ft) tall, are topped with ligulate flowers in bright orange, rounded and grouped, measuring 8cm (3in) in diameter.

The Dahlia 'Jowey Linda' thrives in rich, clayey but healthy soil, worked deeply in warm and sunny locations, sheltered from prevailing winds. It vegetates in poor and sandy soils.

Plant it in beds mixed with other varieties or for making bouquets.

Planting and care

The Dahlia 'Jowey Linda' is planted from mid-April to early May at a depth of 10 to 15cm (4 to 6in) and with a spacing of 60cm (24in). Always install supports and loosely tie the young stems. Apply slow-release compost or organic fertilizer during planting and liquid fertilizer once a month during growth. Water without wetting the foliage. There's no need to pinch back on this variety. Treat against aphids and slugs. Dig up the tubers before frost, cutting the stems to 15cm (6in) from the stump. Store them in darkness in a cool, well-ventilated place that is not too humid. Transplant in early May when the threat of frost has passed.
