The very first from my order of the year to bloom, Purple Fox does not disappoint—despite its strange name (I don't recall ever seeing a fox of this color), it is superb. The flower shape is perfect, wonderfully round, completely regular, and an enthusiastic Barbie pink. Yes, I adore Barbie pink in the garden! Purple Fox also catches mauve reflections at the end of the day, which enhance its presence and depth. It is sturdy, not very tall (without being dwarf) with good stems. I'm already looking forward to overwintering it in autumn along with the few other "happy few" of its family. This is exactly the kind of dahlia that makes everyone who isn't already addicted to the species fall in love with it.

Description
The 'Purple Fox' Dahlia is a variety of Pompom Dahlia. The flowers with dense and clustered petals form a ball fuchsia pink with purple lilac reflections, blooming from July to October.
This perennial has tuberous swollen roots. Gathered in bundles, these tubers give rise to upright, hollow and branched stems, carrying compound, odd-pinnate leaves with rounded leaflets. Solid, fleshy stems, 70cm (28in) tall, are topped with ligulate flowers in fuchsia purple, measuring 7cm (3in) in diameter.
The 'Purple Fox' Dahlia grows in rich, clayey but healthy soil, worked deeply in warm and sunny conditions, sheltered from prevailing winds. It languishes in poor, sandy soils.
The 'Purple Fox' Dahlia is used in mixed borders with other varieties or for making bouquets.

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
