This collection of 24 bulbs for Modern White Bouquets will enable you to create magnificent contemporary-style displays as well as enhance a white garden. The floral spikes of the gladiolus are adorned with large flowers of a perfectly pure white, the arum produces large virginal cones with a gentle fragrance, and the oriental lily offers very large scented trumpets of immaculate white. All are particularly long-lasting as cut flowers. They can be enjoyed from May-June to September, in the garden or the house. Synonymous with purity, elegance, and also sacredness, the white flowers in this collection also have their place in a wedding venue.
This collection consists of:
- 20 x Gladiolus 'White Prosperity': a variety renowned for the beauty of its large flowers of a perfectly pure white, it is one of the most cultivated variety for cut flowers. Numerous blooms are symmetrically and harmoniously arranged on each floral stem of 1.20 m. The flowers open from the bottom to the top of the spike, for about 2 weeks. Spread out your planting to every ten days, and you will have flowers all summer.
- 1 x Zantedeschia aethiopica, Arum or White Calla Lily: this is the florists' white arum, a superb perennial plant with a clump of large glossy leaves that easily reach 1 m in height. Its beautiful white cones with a gentle fragrance are visible from May to August. A rhizomatous perennial, it likes a moist and rich soil. Protect its stump in winter.
- 3 x Lilium or Oriental Lily 'Casablanca': its majestic flowers, among the largest in the genus, measure up to 20 cm long. They are highly scented, of a pure and immaculate white, carried in inflorescence by sturdy 1 m stems. Flowering is in July-August.
To encourage repeat flowering, remove faded flowers, or even better, regularly make large bouquets by combining them with other varieties. The white flowers that make up this collection are beautiful on their own, but they also go well with all the colours in the garden. To enhance your bouquets, also consider white roses, the small soft and white spikes of Lagurus ovatus,

Botanical data
Plant your bulbs in the spring in deeply worked soil enriched, for example, with crushed horn or dehydrated blood. Bury your bulbs at the recommended depth for each variety. Crumble the soil well to fill without air pockets. Water generously.
For the Calla Lily: plant your bulbs from March to April, at a depth of 12 cm, spaced 15 cm apart, in soil that remains cool, even in humid conditions. Apply organic fertiliser when planting and at least once a year. You can also grow them in large pots with regular watering to keep the soil moist, and fertilising every 2 months during growth. Mulch them at the first frosts, as they are susceptible to severe cold and only moderately hardy in central Europe. You can cut back the foliage after the first frost.
For Gladioli: they like rich, fertile, but well-drained, preferably sandy soil. Plant them in full sun. Space the bulbs 10 to 15 cm apart, and cover them with 10 cm of soil. Fertilise after cutting the flowers. Avoid using manure as it promotes bulb rot. Gladioli are susceptible to frost, so they should be dug up when they are withered or immediately after the first frost. Cut the leaves and let them dry in a well-ventilated place for three weeks. Remove the old bulbs. Store the new bulbs throughout the winter in a cool place, but protected from frost. The new bulbs will bloom in two years.
For Oriental Hybrid Lilies: they prefer humus-rich soil and do not tolerate overly chalky soil. Good drainage is also important, as they do not like heavy soil. Plant them in full sun, preferably in spring, burying the bulbs 15 cm deep in a pouch of soil mixed with leaf compost. Surround them with a pouch of sand to prevent rot and slug attacks, while allowing them to grow more easily. Mark the planting location, as growth only starts in April. When the stems reach 30 cm in height, discreetly stake them. If red insects appear, treat them immediately, as they are lily beetles whose larvae can devour all the leaves. The most effective method is to catch them by hand, but be careful as they drop as soon as they are touched, so place a box underneath. After flowering, it is useful to cut the faded flowers halfway to keep the bed looking beautiful during the summer.

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
